Rhythym Games--Do you play them?

I am not a very artistic or musically inclined person.  I think the highest grade I ever received in an art class was a C and I never did learn how to read music even after 2 years of band.  Let's just say that games that draw on those 2 areas (draw, get it..../chuckle) aren't a big attraction for me.  No games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band in my past.  There is, however, one music related game that I have played and mostly enjoyed--Audiosurf.

Audiosurf is a fairly simple game.  Using music provided in the game or by using tracks from your own library, the game creates a "course" based on the music.  The player steers a car/rocket through the course and must collect differently colored blocks.  You receive more points for gathering them in groups of three or more and can gather them in different columns located at the bottom of the screen. The player must also avoid hitting any grey blocks as they will reduce the overall score awarded at the end of the track.  There are also other play modes that involve avoiding blocks or gathering certain colors, I haven't played much with those.

I know, it sounds kind of lame.  It's actually fairly entertaining.  Each course varies based on your music--a fast song has lots of fast movement and curves and you will see lots of orange and red blocks that are close together.  A slow song will be steady and have cool colored blocks like green or blue.  One interesting aspect is scanning in different songs to see what the course is like or trying to find the fastest or slowest song.  Another fun feature is the leaderboard.  Each song features a global, area, and local leaderboard.  It's fun to compete against other players from around the globe and fight for the top spot (which sadly I never achieved).  If your music is obscure enough you can even be the global champion.

If you feel like listening to some tunes and relaxing, try it out with Audiosurf.
